Spain greatly values the efforts of Morocco’s King Mohammed VI in advancing Morocco’s development and ensuring regional stability, Pedro Sanchez, Spain’s Prime Minister and Secretary-General of the Spanish Socialist Workers’ Party (PSOE), said on Saturday in Rabat.
In a statement to the press during the Socialist International Congress, Sanchez welcomed “the excellent relations” between Morocco and Spain, describing them as “two neighboring countries that share projects and a similar vision on global and societal challenges.”
The Spanish official stated that “Spain remains a gateway for Morocco as a strategic partner in the European political project” and has always supported a win-win partnership between Rabat and Brussels.
The Prime Minister also discussed the role Socialists can play in addressing current challenges, calling for progressive forces to promote an inclusive, tolerant vision that embraces diversity.
Sánchez and Driss Lachgar, Morocco’s Secretary-General of the Socialist Union of Popular Forces (USFP), are co-chairing the two-day meeting, held under the theme “Progressive Solutions for a Changing World.”
Participants are discussing a range of topics, including “Radicalization, Peace, and the Promotion of Human Security,” “The Pact for the Future as a Tool for a New Internationalism,” and “The Socioeconomic Impact of Climate Change and Natural Disasters.”
The congress gathered representatives from social-democratic, socialist, and labor parties affiliated with the organization.
