Morocco and Côte d’Ivoire signed on Wednesday a memorandum of understanding to strengthen their efforts against human trafficking prevention, victim support, and dismantling transnational criminal networks, Morocco’s Press Agency (MAP) reported.
Hicham Mellati, Morocco’s Director of Penal Affairs and coordinator of the National Commission Against Human Trafficking, and Myss Belmonde Dogo, Côte d’Ivoire’s Minister of Cohesion and Solidarity, signed the pact to address trafficking, particularly issues affecting women and children.
The pact includes public awareness campaigns, victim protection measures, and collaboration between national commissions to enhance response efforts.
Both nations called for coordinated efforts, affirming that strong partnerships between origin, transit, and destination countries are essential to effectively combat trafficking.
A work plan for 2025-2026 will outline capacity-building activities, temporary housing for victims, and a database to track trafficking cases.
Morocco’s Ambassador to Côte d’Ivoire, Abdelmalek Kettani, and representatives from the International Organization for Migration attended the signing ceremony.
