Moroccan writer and playwright Driss Ksikes received the honorary title “Officer in the Order of Arts and Letters” on Tuesday at a ceremony in the French Embassy in Rabat, recognizing his exceptional contributions to literature, theater, and public intellectual debate.
French Ambassador Christophe Lecourtier presented the honor, commending Ksikes for his commitment to critical thinking and making intellectual discourse accessible to everyone, according to an official social media post by the embassy.
Ksikes, a professor at HEM Business School and director of its research center has shaped Morocco’s cultural and academic scene for decades. He founded “Les Presses de l’Université Citoyenne” and authored acclaimed works that challenge societal norms and provoke thought.
His achievements include international awards for his plays, such as “Pas de mémoire… mémoire de pas” (No memory… memory of steps), and the Grand Atlas Prize for his essay “Le métier d’intellectuel.”
This latest accolade cements Ksikes’ role as a leading voice in Morocco, bridging the worlds of art and literature.
