Emmanuel Macron swore during a heated exchange on Thursday night, “If this weren’t France, you’d be in a bath of shit 10,000 times worse,” he told an angry crowd of residents in the cyclone-hit French territory.
The French president faced frustration from Mahorais residents, who demanded answers about delayed aid, to their Island since cyclone Chido hit on December 14, The Guardian reported.
Despite the delay aids, Macron addressed a crowd, telling them they should be “happy to be in France,” adding, “There is no other place in the Indian Ocean where people are helped as much; that’s a fact.”
Cyclone Chido swept across Mayotte killing at least 31 people and destroying many homes in Mayotte’s capital, Mamoudzou.
The storm destroyed vital infrastructure and flattened many tin-roofed houses that make up the large slums leaving the communities with a water shortage.
