Libya’s Upper House and High Council of State expressed deep gratitude to Morocco for its unwavering support in resolving the Libyan crisis, restoring stability, and unifying the country’s sovereign institutions, on Thursday in Bouznika, Morocco.
In a joint statement, Salah Mitou of the High Council of State thanked Morocco’s leadership, government, and people for their hospitality and steadfast backing. The statement emphasized Morocco’s efforts have been crucial in fostering Libyan unity and sovereignty.
This meeting, attended by 120 participants, forms part of the ongoing Libyan Dialogue aimed at revitalizing the political process.
Discussions focused on advancing preparations for presidential and parliamentary elections within a unified framework for governance.
Both institutions committed to continuing joint talks to resolve disputes peacefully, prioritize merit-based management of state institutions, and ensure accountability and transparency.
They agreed that free and fair elections based on the “6+6” laws endorsed by Libyan institutions and the UN Security Council are essential for a long-term solution.
The leaders also outlined a joint strategy to address election-related issues, executive power restructuring, institutional and financial reforms, and national reconciliation. This plan seeks to define a clear roadmap with a timeline to end the political transition and establish lasting stability.
Morocco’s role in Libyan peace efforts has been consistent since 2015, under the leadership of King Mohammed VI.
The 2015 Skhirat Agreement, initiated during a summit in Morocco with UN support, laid the groundwork for the Presidential Council, a unified government, and elections critical to Libya’s sovereignty and stability.
