An accident on Wednesday at the Ibn Tachfine tramway station in the Hay Mohammadi district of Casablanca, left three people dead and one seriously injured, according to media reports.
The driver of a semi-trailer truck reportedly lost control of the vehicle, crashing into the tramway station and causing significant human and material damage. The accident happened near several passengers at the station, which is known for its heavy daily traffic.
Emergency services and law enforcement rushed to the scene. The two seriously injured victims were transported to Mohammed V Hospital for urgent medical care, while the bodies of the dead were taken to the morgue.
An investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of the accident.
CasaTramway, the company managing the tram network, informed users, “Due to a serious road accident on the tramway platform, traffic is temporarily interrupted on line 1.” The company urged passengers to be patient as technical teams and emergency services worked to restore service between Hay Mohammadi and Lissasfa.
Several hours later, CasaTramway confirmed that due to the action of technicians, police, and civil protection, service was being resumed, but that “slight disruptions” would persist for some time.
“We apologize for this interruption, which is beyond our control,” the company said in a statement.
The incident has once again raised concerns about road safety and traffic management in Casablanca, a city often criticized for its congested streets and frequent accidents.
