Stellantis, the global automotive giant, is further expanding its production of the 3-cylinder turbo PureTech gasoline engine by launching new assembly lines, including one in Kenitra, Morocco, located in the Atlantic Free Zone. This expansion is aimed at meeting the growing demand for the engine, driven by its integration into the Opel and Vauxhall brands within the Stellantis group.
The Kenitra factory, which opened in 2019, will increase its production capacity for the highly regarded 3-cylinder turbo PureTech engine, renowned for its performance and fuel efficiency, starting in 2025.
The engine has already been awarded the prestigious “International Engine of the Year” title four times and powers a wide range of vehicles across Stellantis brands, including Opel and Vauxhall. To date, 3.8 million units have been produced globally.
The addition of the PureTech engine production at Kenitra, along with other sites in Douvrin and Trémery (France), Xiangyang (China), and various facilities in Poland and Hungary, is expected to meet the rising demand. With cutting-edge technologies and an optimized logistics network, Stellantis plans to produce 460,000 engines per year in the near term.
The expansion underscores the strategic importance of the Kenitra plant to Stellantis, despite the departure of its head in early December. The plant is becoming a key production hub for the Africa-Middle East region, solidifying both Stellantis’s industrial competitiveness and Morocco’s pivotal role in its global strategy.
