The Moroccan government, under Aziz Akhanouch’s lead, unveiled an ambitious plan to double its airport capacities across the Kingdom on Monday, increasing it from 38 million to 80 million passengers yearly.
French media Le Figaro highlighted Morocco’s position as a global tourist hub with major infrastructure projects, gearing up to co-host the 2030 FIFA World Cup with Spain and Portugal.
Akhannouch announced the plan, which focuses on increasing its airport capacity to meet the increased demand for the 2030 World Cup while bolstering the nation’s booming tourism sector.
Tourism in Morocco reached a record high in 2024, welcoming 15.9 million visitors in the first 11 months of this year. The country is now heavily investing in its high-speed rail network, which is expected to connect 43 cities by 2040.
The Kingdom has also leveraged its World Cup hosting capacity by renovating and expanding 45 football stadiums and training facilities with a EUR 500 million budget.
