Morocco’s authorities in the Souss-Massa region found the body of a man in an advanced state of decomposition on Monday afternoon in a ravine near a forested area adjacent to the beach in the town of Tamri about 60 km north of Agadir, according to local media.
Authorities believe the body may belong to a Belgian tourist who has been missing since the end of November, a matter to be determined by the results of genetic testing of samples of the deceased’s DNA.
Local authorities confirmed that the victim’s body has been sent for an autopsy to collect genetic fingerprints, perform necessary analyses, and conduct comparisons for identification.
Initial findings at the scene, along with personal belongings found at the top of the ravine, suggest that the victim may have died as a result of a fall.
The Royal Gendarmerie has opened a judicial investigation under the supervision of the public prosecutor’s office to determine the circumstances of the man’s death.
