Several Moroccan football players are in contention for the 2024 CAF Awards, celebrating their exceptional performances in international and club competitions during the 2023-2024 season.
Achraf Hakimi, Paris Saint-Germain’s right-back, is shortlisted for the CAF Player of the Year award. Hakimi delivered an outstanding performance this season, contributing to Morocco’s Olympic team’s bronze medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics and the national team’s achievements in the CAN-2025 qualifiers.
The Moroccan player also significantly contributed to PSG’s victories in the French League and the Coupe de France.
Other contenders include Côte d’Ivoire’s Simon Adingra of Brighton, Guinea’s Serhou Guirassy of Borussia Dortmund, Nigeria’s Ademola Lookman of Atalanta Bergamasca, and South Africa’s Ronwen Williams, the goalkeeper for Mamelodi Sundowns and the South African national team.
For women, AS FAR and national team striker Sanaa Mssoudy is one nominee for the Women’s Player of the Year award.
She competes with Zambia’s Barbra Banda and Nigeria’s Chiamaka Nnadozie. Mssoudy was named Best Player of the 2024 CAF Women’s Champions League in November for leading AS FAR to the final of the tournament held in Morocco.
Mssoudy is also a candidate for the Interclub Player of the Year award, along with teammate Doha El Madani, the CAF Women’s Champions League’s top scorer with six goals. El Madani is also in the running for Young Player of the Year, while Khadija Er-Rmichi is one of the nominees for Goalkeeper of the Year.
Coach of the Year category features Moroccan nominees Mohamed Amine Alioua, who led AS FAR to the Women’s Champions League final, and Lamia Boumehdi, who secured TP Mazembe’s first Women’s Champions League title.
Morocco’s women’s national team is hoping for the National Team of the Year title and Rabat-based club AS FAR is competing for Women’s Club of the Year.
The 2024 CAF Awards, covering January to October, will be decided by votes from CAF’s technical committee, media, coaches, captains, and interclub stage teams.
