A gunman killed five people, including two security guards and two migrants, near a migrant camp in northern France, media reported.
Police said a 22-year-old suspect surrendered and confessed to the shootings, BBC reported.
The attacks happened near Loon-Plage, a coastal area close to Dunkirk, and in the nearby town of Wormhout. Officers found weapons in the suspect’s car, AFP reported.
Dunkirk Mayor Patrice Vergriete described the incidents as a “tragedy” and said investigators have not determined a motive. Xavier Bertrand, head of the regional assembly, confirmed the deaths on social media and called the event “tragic.”
Witnesses at the Loon-Plage migrant camp, a site for those seeking to cross the Channel to the UK, said the shooter killed two migrants near the camp.
