Yamal sustained the injury during Barcelona’s recent 1-0 La Liga loss to Leganés at the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys on Sunday. The 16-year-old was fouled by Leganés’ midfielder Yvan Neyou in the 16th minute and, despite continuing to play until the 75th minute, was substituted after showing signs of pain.
This is the second ankle injury Yamal has suffered this season. He had previously missed three weeks after injuring his ankle in a Champions League match against Red Star Belgrade on November 6, according to Bein Sports.
After Yamal was sidelined, Barcelona lost to Real Sociedad 1-0 and drew 2-2 with Celta in La Liga but secured a 3-0 win over Brest in the Champions League. A key player under coach Hansi Flick, Yamal has contributed six goals and 11 assists this season, making him the third-highest assist provider among players in Europe’s top five leagues.
