Morocco will host the 2026 Optimist World Championship from June 18 to 28, 2026, following a unanimous decision by the International Sailing Federation’s General Assembly on Friday in Mar del Plata, Argentina, the Moroccan Sailing Federation (FRMV) announced.
The championship is scheduled to take place at the Royal Yacht Club in Tangier and will feature 250 participants under 15 years of age from 60 countries in the Optimist class.
The federation stated that following Morocco’s selection to host the Africa Cup of Nations in 2025 and the FIFA World Cup in 2030, the hosting of this competition shows the country’s commitment to sports excellence and innovation.
“Morocco, represented by the FRMV at the Assembly in Argentina, is ready to take up this challenge and reaffirms its commitment to using sport for development,” the statement concluded.
