Yaël Braun-Pivet, President of the French National Assembly, reiterated France’s strong support for Morocco’s sovereignty over the Sahara on Friday in Rabat.
The official made her comments at Morocco’s Lower House during the closing seminar of the Morocco-European Union institutional twinning program. Braun-Pivet pointed out that France, with its historical, cultural, and strategic ties to Morocco, “Will continue to support Morocco in addressing its existential challenges” such as that of the Sahara.
She reaffirmed France’s position, stating that the present and future of the Sahara “fall within the framework of Moroccan sovereignty.”
The National Assembly President added that France will fully contribute to supporting the remarkable development of this territory, along with French operators and businesses.
Braun-Pivet also mentioned that a parliamentary mission could soon visit Morocco’s Sahara region, particularly to encourage the establishment of new economic and cultural partnerships, all aimed at benefiting local populations.
