Morocco is expected to acquire 168 trains to support its significant growth in rail traffic and to accompany its network expansion, Morocco’s Minister of Transport and Logistics, Abdessamad Kayouh, announced on Monday.
The minister added that these acquisitions are part of the national rail development plan for the 2027-2030 period. Of the new units, 150 will be allocated to urban areas to meet the growing demand for local transport.
Eighteen high-speed trains will strengthen the rail fleet, with particular attention given to the future 430 km line linking Marrakech to Kenitra via Casablanca, a strategic route along the Atlantic coast, according to the minister.
Kayouh also pointed out “The initiative is part of an ambitious vision to modernize the national rail network, improve service quality, and increase passenger capacity.”
Morocco is continuing to mobilize “significant investments in its rail infrastructure to support demographic growth and economic development,” he added.
The project is part of a broader strategy to enhance connectivity and promote sustainable modes of transport while reducing the country’s carbon footprint.
