Meta announced on Wednesday on X (formerly Twitter) that a “technical issue” is disrupting access to Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp.
The company stated: “We’re aware that a technical issue is impacting some users’ ability to access our apps. We’re working to resolve the issue as quickly as possible and apologize for any inconvenience.”
Reports from Downdetector showed a surge in problems across Meta platforms starting around 6 p.m. By 6:07 p.m., 25,807 issues with Facebook were reported in the UK and 106,401 in the US.
WhatsApp logged 15,565 incidents in the UK by 6:28 p.m., while Instagram users in the UK reported login errors on the iOS app around 7:56 p.m., though the website remained accessible for some.
WhatsApp later updated on X: “We’re actively working on a solution and are starting to see things return to normal for most people. We expect full service to be restored shortly.”
This is the latest in a series of outages, following incidents earlier this year and in October that were resolved within hours.
