Three Moroccan translators ranked in the top three French-Arabic language combinations during the 10th Sheikh Hamad Award for Translation and International Understanding, held on Tuesday in Doha, Morocco’s Press Agency (MAP) reported.
In the Arabic-to-French translation category, Ilyass Amharar earned third place for his work on the islamic book “Al-Mahssoul fi Ilm al-Ossoul” by Abu Bakr Ibn al-Arabi. In the French-to-Arabic category, Hocine Benouhachim secured second place for translating “L’Empire Khattabi” by Chaïm Perelman, while Mohamed Ait Hanna also achieved second place for his translation of Alexandre Dumas’ classic novel, “The Count of Monte Cristo.”
Abdelouahed Alami received an encouragement award in the French-to-Arabic category for his translation of “The Prophet of Islam” by Muhammad Hamidullah.
This year, the competition registered entries from 35 countries, including 17 Arab nations. The primary languages in the main categories were French and English, with less widely spoken languages like Baluchi, Tatar, Hungarian, and Yoruba included as secondary languages.
The Sheikh Hamad Award for Translation and International Understanding celebrates excellence in fostering cross-cultural understanding through translation.
