The Policy Center for the New South (PCNS) will bring global leaders, experts, and changemakers together for its annual Atlantic Dialogues conference on December 12 to 14, 2024, at its headquarters at Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6) in Rabat, to explore diverse challenges and opportunities shaping the Atlantic region and to highlight practical solutions and fresh perspectives.
Departing from previous formats, the conference will adopt a multidisciplinary approach, addressing a wide array of topics instead of focusing on a single theme. By returning to Rabat, where its earliest editions were held, the conference reflects both its roots and its evolution into a mature platform for critical dialogue.
At the heart of the discussions will be the Moroccan Atlantic Initiative, an ambitious plan to enhance economic opportunities for Sahel nations and accelerate their integration into global markets by providing a gateway for them to the Atlantic Ocean. The initiative aligns with regional efforts to address development gaps, tackle security challenges, and foster long-term cooperation between the north and south Atlantic.
Occurring shortly after major global developments such as the U.S. presidential elections and the G20 Summit in Brazil, the Dialogues will also address pressing geopolitical issues.
The focus will include global governance in an era of growing rivalries, cultural diplomacy, regional security paradigms, smart infrastructure, and the regulation of artificial intelligence. These topics will be explored through panels, roundtables, and small group discussions designed to encourage actionable solutions.
A key feature of the event is the presentation of the Atlantic Currents report, an annual publication that analyzes the latest trends and dynamics shaping the Atlantic basin.
First launched in 2014, the report provides a foundation for the discussions, offering critical insights into political, economic, and security developments.
The Atlantic Dialogues is not just a platform for decision-makers; it also prioritizes youth engagement through its Emerging Leaders Program (ADEL).
Each year, this initiative brings together young innovators from across the Atlantic basin, equipping them with leadership skills and opportunities to contribute to the conference. Selected participants undergo intensive training in leadership and design thinking, ensuring their voices shape the event’s dialogue.
This year, 30 to 50 emerging leaders will join the growing ADEL network, now comprising 400 members from 70 countries.
Since its launch, the conference has built a diverse community of over 1,000 members, dedicated to fostering inclusive and cooperative solutions for the Atlantic region.
With its expanded focus and renewed energy, the 2024 Atlantic Dialogues is intended to strengthen ties between the North and South Atlantic while addressing critical global challenges.
By combining thought-provoking discussions with actionable strategies, the conference underscores the importance of partnerships, innovation, and solidarity in navigating the complex dynamics of the Atlantic basin.
