India’s Tata Group has secured a second major contract to supply its “LPTA 2445 Defence Dump Trucks” to the Royal Moroccan Army (FAR), marking another milestone in the growing defense collaboration between India and Morocco, according to outlet “Defence. In”
This new contract, which follows the delivery of 90 trucks configured for logistics and munitions transport, will see Tata provide the Moroccan military with a specialized version of the LPTA 2445 truck — the defense dump truck variant.
These trucks are specifically designed for transporting construction materials, water, and essential supplies, and are crucial for supporting military operations in remote and rugged terrains.
The new trucks ordered by Morocco will significantly enhance the national army’s logistical capabilities. These vehicles, known for their robust payload capacity and off-road performance, will be vital for the Moroccan military’s operations in challenging environments, particularly in arid regions where access to supplies is often limited.
The trucks can also be paired with a 1.5-ton cargo trailer, further expanding their transportation capabilities, especially for moving water and other critical supplies needed for long-term military operations in remote areas.
Tata Group’s growing prominence in the international defense market is illustrated by this repeat order from the Moroccan military. The successful performance of the LPTA 2445 trucks, which have already been deployed for logistics and munitions transport, has led to increased trust in Tata’s engineering expertise and ability to meet the demands of military operations.
This contract also fits within the broader context of Tata Group’s expanding role in Morocco’s defense industry. Tata Advanced Systems Ltd (TASL) is set to establish a new manufacturing facility in Casablanca starting in 2025.
This facility will produce Wheeled Armored Platform” (WhAP), an amphibious 8×8 combat vehicle capable of navigating all types of terrain. WhAP is known for its superior maneuverability, firepower, and versatility, making it an essential asset for modern land warfare. The production of WhAP in Morocco is expected to significantly enhance the Royal Moroccan Armed Forces’ (FAR) operational capabilities, particularly in mobility and combat readiness.
The new manufacturing facility, named “Tata Advanced Systems Maroc” (TASM), is a key part of Morocco’s strategy to modernize its armed forces and establish greater autonomy in defense production.
The factory will initially produce 100 WhAP units per year, with the first deliveries expected within 18 months of the factory’s opening. This initiative marks a significant step towards Morocco’s goal of reducing reliance on foreign defense suppliers and increasing self-sufficiency in military production.
Morocco and Tata’s collaboration represents a deeper integration of the two countries in defense production and military technology. The facility in Casablanca will also contribute to the growth of a local defense manufacturing ecosystem, creating jobs, fostering technical expertise, and encouraging the sourcing of local materials.
The investment convention for the new factory was signed by key Moroccan ministers, including those from the National Defense, Interior, Finance, Industry, and Investment departments. The signing ceremony was attended by high-level representatives from the FAR and the Moroccan Agency for Investment and Export Development (AMDIE).
