Morocco’s postal service, Barid Al-Maghrib, is abandoning combustion-engine motorcycles in favor of electric scooters to adopt environmentally friendly practices in mail distribution.
In a statement to Morocco’s Press Agency (MAP), Barid Al-Maghrib announced the deployment of an initial batch of 190 electric scooters for mail and parcel delivery in seven major cities: Laâyoune, Agadir, Marrakech, Fès, Casablanca, Tangier, and Rabat.
A second batch of 250 additional units is planned by the end of December 2024. By 2025, more than 650 electric scooters are expected to operate across Morocco, the statement said.
The new fleet of scooters has a range of 80 to 100 km per charge, fully equipped to meet the daily delivery demands.
This initiative builds on Barid Al-Maghrib’s previous efforts, including the integration of 225 electric vehicles into its fleet starting in 2022.
