Authorities successfully intercepted an international drug smuggling attempt at the Tangier Med Port on Thursday and seized 828 kilograms of cannabis concealed within a shipment of firewood.
Law enforcement officials said border control agents found 268 kilograms of cannabis during a routine inspection of a Morocco-registered truck. Investigators traced the drugs to warehouses in the rural area of Oulad Salama, near Kenitra.
A police raid at the warehouses on Friday uncovered an additional 560 kilograms of the same illicit substance, packed using the same method. Authorities confirmed the total seized amount as 828 kilograms.
The suspects, the driver, and the warehouse custodian, are now in custody pending further investigation under the public prosecutor’s office.
