Morocco has been re-elected as a member of the World Food Programme (WFP) Executive Board for a one-year term during the 176th session of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) Council, held in Rome from December 2–6, Morocco’s Press Agency (MAP) reported.
The reelection underscores global recognition of Morocco’s efforts to enhance food security at regional and international levels, according to the Moroccan diplomatic mission in Rome.
It also reflects the trust Morocco has earned for its leadership during its presidency of the WFP Executive Board in 2024, represented by Ambassador Youssef Balla, Morocco’s Permanent Representative to UN organizations in Rome.
The renewed mandate highlights Morocco’s capacity to advocate for African priorities while contributing to global food security and nutrition challenges.
Led by Ambassador Balla, the Moroccan delegation actively participated in discussions at the FAO Council, addressing key issues such as the Hand-in-Hand Initiative to accelerate agricultural transformation and sustainable rural development, emergency responses to food crises, and the impact of conflicts on global food security.
The delegation underscored African countries’ priorities, aligning with strategies outlined during the 33rd FAO Regional Conference for Africa, held in Rabat from April 18–20, 2024. Morocco also showcased its commitment to fostering solidarity and coordination among African nations to tackle the continent’s food and nutrition challenges.
