Russia’s Consulate in Casablanca has denied media reports claiming that a Russian diplomat and his wife were assaulted during a dispute with taxi drivers in the city on Friday, November 29.
In an official statement, the consulate asserted that the couple had not sustained any physical injuries from the incident. However, the incident caused psychological and emotional distress.
The disagreement arose from tensions between independent taxi drivers and ride-hailing app users in Casablanca, when the couple’s vehicle was briefly blocked, leading to a verbal altercation.
Local authorities quickly intervened and apprehended those involved in the disruption.
The consulate stated that the incident had no political motivations and confirmed the couple had returned to Russia safely.
The diplomat arrived in Morocco for an official visit, which included the signing of an agreement with the Minister of Agriculture in Rabat.
