Italian authorities, arrested seven individuals in a major anti-drug operation dubbed “Crypto” in Italy, with the help of Moroccan intelligence, the successful arrest was made on Wednesday, a large cannabis trafficking network linking Morocco to Europe.
The seized 12.5 kg of substances, primarily cannabis and cannabis resin, were being smuggled from Morocco to Spain and then to Italy via illegal migration networks. The trafficking operation supplied the illegal Italian market and strengthened the influence of criminal clans, including Marco Raduano, a notorious mafia boss recently arrested in Corsica.
Moroccan authorities in collaboration with their Italian and European counterparts, are playing an increasingly important role in combating the transnational networks. Through enhanced intelligence efforts and surveillance, they are helping to disrupt drug exports from Morocco and dismantle the criminal routes operating between Africa and Europe.
The suspects are now in custody and investigations are ongoing to fully dismantle the network.
