A recent ruling from the Administrative Court of Casablanca condemned the National Highway Company and awarded millions in compensation to a driver involved in a crash on the Bouskoura highway, according to local media reports.
The incident occurred when the driver unexpectedly collided with a donkey that had crossed the road, causing significant damage to his vehicle.
The driver’s lawyer had argued that the highway company was negligent in failing to implement safety precautions to protect motorists, despite the toll fees it collects from users.
The court held the highway company responsible for the accident, citing its duty to protect road users.
The court noted that, as the entity managing the highway and collecting tolls from drivers, the company had failed to prevent animals from entering the road, a clear act of neglect that led to the crash. The judgment explained that the company had not taken sufficient measures to ensure the safety of those using the highway.
The court ruled that the company was liable for the incident and ordered it to pay substantial damages to the driver for the damages caused to his car.
