Morocco’s pavilion at COP16 to the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD), held in Riyadh, is showcasing the country’s successes in ecosystem preservation and the fight against desertification.
Through its pavilion, Morocco is sharing its rich experience in sustainable land management and desertification control, particularly with African countries, Abderrahim Houmy, Director-General of the National Agency for Water and Forests (ANEF), told Morocco’s Press Agency (MAP.)
The 250-square-meter pavilion “will serve as a platform to present best practices and Morocco’s achievements in combating desertification and managing drought,” Houmy added. The COP16 program includes several side events sponsored by ANEF and its partners, which will provide opportunities to explore regional and international cooperation, he noted.
Special attention is paid to integrating local communities, recognizing their crucial role in environmental preservation efforts.
Through its participation in COP16, Morocco reaffirms its ongoing commitment to ecosystem preservation and desertification control, Houmy highlighted. The event is regarded as t a significant milestone in international efforts to combat desertification and restore degraded soils.
Morocco has implemented several environmental strategies, including the “Forests of Morocco 2020-2030” strategy to preserve natural resources, ANEF’s Director pointed out.
