Morocco’s Upper House Speaker Rachid Talbi Alami and European Parliament President Roberta Metsola reached an agreement on Tuesday in Brussels on a roadmap to restore and strengthen relations between their respective parties.
Speaking to the Moroccan Press Agency (MAP,) Talbi Alami stated, “We discussed several topics and agreed on a methodology and roadmap to restore cooperation between the Moroccan and European parliaments to its normal state and overcome the challenges that have strained these relations.”
The meeting, held at Metsola’s invitation, was seen as a significant step toward rebuilding ties following the European Parliament’s recent elections and structural reorganization.
Talbi Alami stressed the importance of respecting Morocco’s “conditions,” which he described as essential for fostering better relations between the two institutions “in a framework of mutual respect.”
Metsola highlighted Morocco’s pivotal role as a stable and influential neighbor to Europe, praising the country’s political, economic, and social achievements under the leadership of King Mohammed VI.
