Morocco’s government has earmarked MAD 40 million in funding to support the education of children with special needs, the Minister of Solidarity, and Social Integration, Naima Ben Yahya said on Tuesday.
During a parliamentary session on Tuesday, Ben Yahya reported that 27,500 children with disabilities are currently enrolled in school for the 2024 academic year. The allocation is part of a total budget of MAD 396 million dedicated to supporting this demographic.
The minister also highlighted other milestones, including providing technical and medical aid to 19,000 individuals and funding nearly 1,000 entrepreneurial projects under a total budget of MAD 53.5 million (USD 5 million).
The measures are intended to build capacity for individuals with disabilities and their families through enhanced access to resources and financial assistance.
Ben Yahya linked these efforts to the 2015–2025 Integrated Public Policy for the Advancement of Disability Rights. The strategy focuses on drafting legislation, integrating disability considerations into national plans, and promoting inclusivity across all levels of government and society.
The ministry also launched a disability ID card system in 2024, enabling individuals to access services on a preferential basis. The system is in line with the government’s commitment to breaking down barriers for people with disabilities.
Marking International Day of Persons with Disabilities on December 3, the ministry initiated consultations with civil society organizations to develop a 2025–2026 National Action Plan.
Ben Yahya commended the organizations for their collaboration and crucial role in implementing disability-related projects.
