Morocco’s Minister of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development, Leila Benali, highlighted the Kingdom’s commitment to a sustainable mining industry on Tuesday during the first International Mining Congress of Morocco (IMC Morocco 2024) in Marrakech, Morocco’s Press Agency (MAP) reported.
Benali’s statement aligns with the expansion of Morocco’s mining industry, driven by the discovery of significant metal reserves in various regions.
“Morocco possesses a set of advantages, not only in terms of resources and reserves but also regarding regulations, institutions, and sustainability for producing electro-molecules, minerals, metals, and competitive low-carbon and zero-carbon products,” Benali told MAP.
She added Morocco plans to maintain sustainability as a vital priority to achieve its energy transition goals.
According to Benali, all electro-molecules, minerals, and metals produced and certified in Morocco—or transiting through the country—are entirely green and sustainable.
IMC Morocco 2024 is sponsored by the Moroccan Federation of Industrial Minerals (FDIM) with support from the Ministry of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development, the Ministry of Industry and Trade, and AMDIE.
The event showcases Morocco’s investment framework, updates stakeholders on ongoing and finalized reforms, and explores innovative financing methods for mining projects.
