Southern Zone Commander of the Royal Armed Forces (FAR) Mohammed Berrid met with General Thierry Burkhard, Chief of Staff of France’s Armed Forces on Monday in Rabat as part of the 22nd Moroccan-French Joint Military Committee, Morocco’s Press Agency (MAP) reported.
Berrid and Burkhard examined new avenues for strengthening bilateral military cooperation between Morocco and France and addressing regional and international security threats, according to a statement from the FAR General Staff.
The two leaders commended the strong cooperation between the armed forces of the two nations, highlighting the robust ties that have steadily strengthened in many areas. They agreed to leverage existing momentum fostered by the strategic partnership led by King Mohammed VI and France’s President Emmanuel Macron.
The committee also reviewed the outcomes of bilateral military cooperation in 2024 and outlined activities planned for 2025.
On the same day, Minister Delegate to the Head of Government in charge of National Defense Administration, Abdellatif Loudiyi, held talks with French General Thierry Burkhard at the ministry’s headquarters. They commended the positive momentum in France-Morocco friendship and cooperation, with both officials noting plans to expand collaboration into new areas, including space, cybersecurity, and artificial intelligence, to benefit the armed forces and strengthen the defense industry.
