Eight people were killed and two others injured in a shooting that occurred on Sunday evening in the city of Apaseo el Grande in central Mexico, authorities reported on Monday.
Armed men opened fire at a shopping center. Among the victims of the shooting were two firefighters and an ambulance worker.
The city of Apaseo el Grande has been the site of several shootings in recent years, linked to the wars between drug cartels.
The Jalisco cartel and the local Santa Rosa de Lima gang have been engaged in a long-standing conflict in the state of Guanajuato.
The bodies of 12 murdered police officers were found in various regions of Salamanca, a city in Guanajuato on October 4.
Authorities reported a total of 29,675 homicides in the country last year, an average of 81 per day.
Guanajuato, considered the most violent state for several years, ranked first with 3,104 homicides.
