European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) President Odile Renaud-Basso will visit Morocco from December 4 to 6 to meet with government officials and attend the Africa Investment Forum (AIF), the bank announced.
At the AIF, Renaud-Basso will engage in a “fireside chat” with Leila Benali, Morocco’s Minister of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development, focusing on investment opportunities in Africa.
She will also hold discussions with African Development Bank President Akin Adesina on the growing cooperation between the two institutions, particularly in light of EBRD’s recent expansion into sub-Saharan Africa.
During her visit, Renaud-Basso is expected to sign multiple investment agreements in various sectors of the Moroccan economy. Ahead of her visit, she stated, “We are committed to continuing to scale up our engagement in Morocco to support economic growth, regional integration, and green economy potential while fostering equality of opportunity, particularly addressing youth unemployment and gender issues.”
The visit will include meetings with Moroccan Head of Government Aziz Akhannouch, Minister of Economy and Finance Nadia Fettah Alaoui, and other officials. President Renaud-Basso will also meet with Central Bank of Morocco Governor Abdellatif Jouahri and General Confederation of Moroccan Enterprises (CGEM) President Chakib Alj.
Morocco, a founding member of the EBRD, has seen nearly EUR 5 billion in investments through 106 projects, with over 77% in the private sector. The EBRD has also provided advisory support to more than 1,000 small and medium-sized enterprises in the country.
