France’s Anti-Drug Office (Ofast), in collaboration with the Organized and Specialized Crime Division, intercepted a large-scale drug trafficking operation on Friday in Meyzieu, east of Lyon, and seized 500 kg of cannabis resin, valued at over MAD 43 million, according to local media reports.
The French authorities had been monitoring a truck with Moroccan license plates, which stopped to unload the illegal cargo and arrested three suspects—the truck driver and two men who received the drugs.
The involvement of a Moroccan-registered truck raises questions about the origins and routes used by international trafficking networks, which are increasingly using commercial vehicles to conceal their illicit activities.
The interception follows a series of similar sting operations in the Lyon area, including one in October when French customs seized nearly a ton of ecstasy pills.
