The Bayt Mal Al-Quds Agency, an arm of the Al-Quds Committee, is participating in the “Morocco Week in Chile,” starting on Thursday to highlight Morocco’s support for the Palestinian cause as King Mohammed VI is the Chairperson of the Al-Quds Committee.
The Morocco Week in Chile coincides with the annual International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People, celebrated on November 29.
Director of the Agency Mohamed Salem Echarkaoui reiterated Bayt Mal Al-Quds’s commitment to “protect the holy city, preserve its legal status, and support its Palestinian population,” quoted Morocco’s Press Agency (MAP).
Highlighting Morocco’s deep connection to the city, Echarkaoui said that one of Al-Quds’ gates is named after the Moroccan people to this day. He noted that Morocco continues to strengthen its presence in Al-Quds by acquiring a property on the Via Dolorosa, in the heart of the Old City.
“The property is being converted into a Moroccan Cultural Center (Bayt Al-Maghrib), which will serve to reinforce the Kingdom’s values based on peace and coexistence,” the agency’s director added.
Echarkaoui further stated, “The Moroccan people view the Palestinian cause as a national issue, defending it as strongly as they can, just as free peoples around the world, including the friendly Chilean people and its esteemed institutions, do.”
He also noted the Al-Quds Committee is active politically and legally through Moroccan diplomatic efforts, as well as on the humanitarian level, via Bayt Mal Al-Quds Agency’s projects in health, education, housing, and social development.
Along with the numerous Moroccan artisan stalls featured at the event, the Agency has set up displays showcasing posters of its social projects and programs in Al-Quds, in addition to publications and documents.
The agency is also exhibiting products from Palestinian associations and organizations, including empowerment programs for women in Al-Quds, youth initiatives, as well as jewelry and textiles that reflect Palestinian identity and heritage.
