Officers from the judicial police in Oujda, in coordination with the Territorial Surveillance Agency (DGST), dismantled a suspected international gold smuggling ring on Thursday, arresting five individuals aged 26 to 68, including four members of the same family, according to Morocco’s Press Agency (MAP).
During the operation, authorities conducted searches in three homes in the city and uncovered 87 gold nuggets weighing a total of 33.13 kilograms in addition to several small gold ingots.
Officials also seized significant sums of money, in both Moroccan dirhams and euros, believed to be proceeds from the illegal smuggling ring.
Police confiscated other items allegedly linked to the criminal network, including two cars, a motorcycle, knives, and an electronic scale allegedly used in the smuggling activities.
The suspects are now in police custody pending further investigation under the supervision of the public prosecutor’s office.
