Nador and Marrakech police, in coordination with the National Agency of Water and Forests (ANEF), confiscated a collection of exotic animals and reptiles intended for illegal trade on Tuesday, as part of “Operation Thunder.”
Nador police arrested two individuals allegedly “caught in the act” with four caged moongooses which were being offered for sale, according to a press release issued by Morocco’s National Police.
Later, Marrakech police seized 61 snakes that were being kept in conditions posing a public safety risk. The confiscated specimens included 13 cobras, 36 non-venomous snakes, and a variety of other reptiles.
The seized animals and reptiles are protected species and have been handed over to ANEF specialists.
An investigation is now underway under the supervision of the public prosecutor’s office into the circumstances surrounding their possession and sale.
