Hungary reiterated on Wednesday its firm support for Morocco’s Autonomy Plan as the most credible and realistic solution to the Sahara conflict, during a bilateral meeting in Rabat between Hungarian and Moroccan diplomats.
Hungarian officials highlighted their country’s recognition of Morocco’s sovereignty and its commitment to backing the autonomy proposal in international forums.
Hungary’s support aligns with an expanding base of countries endorsing the plan, citing its pragmatic approach and potential to ensure peace and stability in the region.
The autonomy initiative, proposed by Morocco in 2007, has garnered significant international recognition as a pathway for resolving the Sahara dispute.
In 2020, the US made its historic decision to support Morocco’s sovereignty over its Sahara, reversing some 30 years of US policy. One year later, the Kingdom gained Spain’s support. Earlier this year, France also endorsed Morocco’s territorial integrity, a decision that analysts widely considered a “game changer” for the long-standing issue.
