Moroccan authorities arrested Mohamed Aouzal, the former president of Raja Casablanca football club, on Tuesday afternoon and presented him to the public prosecutor at the primary court in Casablanca on charges of “breach of trust and collusion,” media reported.
The court remanded Aouzal into custody and pre-trial detention at Oukacha Prison pending further investigation.
The criminal charges follow an earlier complaint filed by AXA Insurance, that had accused Aouzal of failing to pay over MAD 38.7 million (approximately USD 3.8 million) in premiums tied to a partnership agreement established in 2006.
Sources close to the case said that the complaint alleged a long-standing financial dispute in which AXA claimed Aouzal had defaulted on payments required under the agreement, sparking legal action.
