At least two people have died, and eight others were seriously injured in an explosion on Wednesday at a factory specialising in manufacturing plastic containers and packaging in Alicante, located in southeastern Spain, according to local media.
The explosion, initially attributed to a boiler malfunction, occurred shortly before noon, causing a partial collapse of the factory’s infrastructure.
Several employees were trapped under the rubble, according to the Alicante Regional Fire Department, which coordinated the rescue operation.
Seven firefighting units rushed to the scene; those seriously injured have been admitted to hospitals in Alcoy, Alicante, and Valencia. One of the injured has been airlifted to the burns unit of Valencia’s General Hospital.
