Classified tourist accommodation in Morocco’s northern Tangier-Asilah region recorded over 1.3 million tourist overnight stays during the first nine months of 2024, according to the “National Tourism Observatory’s” latest report.
The report indicated that the number of overnight stays recorded in classified hotels during Q3 of 2024 reached over 1.3 million representing a 4% increase year on year (1.2 million overnight stays in 2023).
However, the bed occupancy rate in classified hotels fell flat standing at around 54% between January and September 2024, compared to 55%.
Tangier maintained its position as the fourth most popular tourist destination in Morocco during this period, following Marrakech (7.4 million overnight stays), Agadir (4.9 million overnight stays), and Casablanca (1.5 million overnight stays). Fes ranked considerably lower, with 667,000 overnight stays.
In September alone, classified hotels in the Tangier-Asilah destination recorded strong growth of nearly 29%, with a total of 192,118 overnight stays, compared to 149,220 overnight stays in September 2023.
Morocco’s Tourism Observatory also reported that the total number of overnight stays recorded in classified tourist accommodation establishments nationwide reached 21.35 million as of September 2024, representing a 10% increase compared to the same period last year, reaching over 19.4 million overnight stays.
