Morocco’s classified tourist accommodations reported a 10% rise in overnight stays in the first 9 months of 2024, according to the Tourism Observatory.
Although domestic tourism dipped slightly by 2%, international visitors drove the overall growth with a significant 16% increase in overnight stays.
From January to September, Morocco welcomed approximately 13.1 million tourists, an 18% increase over the number of tourists in the same period in 2023.
Key source markets contributed significantly to the gain. The number of visitors from the United Kingdom rose 43%, followed by Germany (+30%), Italy (+25%), France (+19%), and Spain (+14%).
Airport arrivals mirrored this upward trend. Marrakech-Menara Airport arrivals increased by 32%, while Agadir Al Massira Airport grew by 35%. Tangier Ibn Battouta Airport and Fès-Saïss Airport posted gains of 18% and 11%, respectively, while Casablanca Mohammed V Airport noted a 7% rise in arrivals.
In September 2024 alone, tourist arrivals hit 1.28 million, a 33% increase compared to September 2023. Broken down by origin, United Kingdom arrivals surged by 81%, Italy by 89%, Germany by 40%, France by 46%, and Spain by 18% during the month.
Travel revenues also climbed, reaching 87.1 billion dirhams (USD 8.6 billion) as of the end of September 2024, up from 80.4 billion dirhams (USD 7.9 billion) during the same period last year, an 8.4% improvement.
