In a special way to bridge the gap between police services and the public, a one-of-a-kind exhibition is opening its door in Rabat and will run until November 28, featuring the inner worlds of Morocco’s police officers who are often viewed through a distant lens of authority.
Sponsored by the Mohammed VI Foundation for Social Works of National Security Personnel (FMSN) and celebrating Morocco’s 69th Independence Day, the exhibition is part of a broader initiative to recognize excellence within police members. Led by the Head of National Police(DGSN) and Territorial Surveillance Agency (DGST), Abdellatif Hammouchi the event highlights both academic achievement and artistic expression.
The exhibition features around 30 works created by officers, selected by a panel of judges and art experts appointed by the Ministry of Culture. These pieces reflect not only artistic skill but also significant national events, such as Morocco’s King Mohammed VI’s meeting with country leaders’ and the September 2023 earthquake that affected various southern regions of the country.
This exhibition is part of a wider initiative by the Mohammed VI Foundation to encourage creativity among the police, encompassing sports and academic excellence as well as the arts. Hammouchi’s leadership has strengthened national pride and patriotism by supporting every aspect of the police officers’ lives.
Recently, the DGSN held its annual awards ceremony to recognize the academic achievements of top students from families of National Police members, offering cash prizes and study grants to those who excelled in the national baccalaureate exams. The foundation has also signed agreements with universities to provide reduced tuition fees and scholarships for deserving students.
Mohamed Mechmachi, the Deputy Secretary-General of the FMSN told Barlaman Today: “The exhibition, which features artworks created by officers of the DGSN, is a continuation of the excellence and creativity event presided over by the Head of DGSN and DGST during which outstanding students from the National Security family were recognized and awarded to encourage and motivate them to continue excelling academically.”
Mechmachi also said that police officers who won the painting competition will be honored, as well as the top three teams from the mini-football competition, sponsored by the Moroccan Sports Union for Police Officers.
“This exhibition presents paintings from various artistic schools, including classical, realistic, surrealist, and abstract, among others,” Mechmachi noted. Discussing the event further he says “It embodies the vision of the Head of the DGSN and DGST to encourage artistic and literary creativity among National Security personnel.”
This gallery provides a space to make it “clear that police officers, in addition to their core duties of maintaining order, protecting lives and property, defending the nation, and combating all forms of crime, also possess artistic talents and skills,” Mechmachi highlighted. The foundation will also seek to highlight and hone these talents through this exhibition and other initiatives, he said.
The Secretary-General also pointed out that this exhibition will be followed by other initiatives with motivating prizes including financial rewards for the winners.
By highlighting the artistic achievements of police officers, this event reinforces the idea that creativity transcends professions and is a universal trait that enriches the cultural landscape of society. Through these efforts, the exhibition inspires officers to excel beyond their official duties, demonstrating that creativity is an essential part of the human experience, fostering cultural exchange and personal growth.
