Police in Salé arrested a man and woman aged 31 and 45, respectively, on Saturday, both of whom allegedly have extensive criminal records, on suspicion of drug possession and distributing narcotics and psychotropic drugs as part of a drug ring.
The first suspect was arrested at Rabat’s bus station after he got off a bus coming from northern Morocco. After a search, police found 3,196 psychotropic pills on his person, including “Rivotril” and ecstasy.
A follow-up investigation led officers to Oulad Moussa, where they arrested the second suspect believed to be the intended recipient and distributor of the seized pills.
Investigators suspect that the two individuals are members of a larger network of drug traffickers and sellers.
The two suspects have been remanded into custody pending further investigation as to the network’s full scope and other members who may be involved in the illegal drug operation.
