Gunmen stormed a bar early Sunday in Villahermosa, Tabasco, killing six people and leaving at least five injured in southeast Mexico, AP reported.
The shooting erupted in the coastal province, where escalating crime rates have raised alarm among residents and officials.
Witnesses described a chaotic scene as patrons fled for safety. Some survivors remained with the wounded until police and paramedics arrived, according to videos circulating on social media.
Omar García Harfuch, Mexico’s Public Safety Secretary, confirmed the attack on X. He stated that federal authorities are working closely with local officials to investigate the killings and apprehend the attackers.
However, no arrests have been made, and the motive behind the shooting remains unclear.
The attack is part of a growing wave of violence that has been gripping Mexico. Earlier this month, gunmen targeted a bar in Querétaro’s historic city center, killing ten and wounding 13. Gun violence has become distressingly frequent, even in regions previously considered relatively peaceful.
