Morocco’s Mohammed VI Foundation for Science and Health inaugurated the African Academy of Health Sciences (AAHS) on Saturday in Dakhla, the Foundation announced in a press release. The AAHS is dedicated to advancing research and development in health sciences across Africa.
The Academy will help foster South-South cooperation and promote scientific health research to meet the specific needs of the African continent. It also focuses on achieving excellence in health sciences education by offering training programs designed to cope with the continent’s unique challenges.
The AAHS also focuses on uniting experts by creating networks, developing strategies, conducting research projects, and sharing knowledge and best practices in healthcare. Through these efforts, the Academy’s goal is to become a central institution and driving force for improving health outcomes in Africa.
The Academy has established strategic partnerships with organizations such as the World Health Organization (WHO) and stakeholders in the pharmaceutical industry to strengthen health cooperation across the continent.
The AAHS will also engage in the collection and analysis of health data through its Big Data initiative, serving as a non-profit African observatory. The Academy will address public health issues raised by Moroccan authorities, as well as by African and international bodies.
The AAHS’s key areas of focus include human health (public health, emergency care, cardiology), animal health (veterinary care and food security), and environmental health (climate change, desertification, water scarcity, and water stress).
Its objective is also to become a hub for health development in Africa, fostering scientific innovation and organizing conferences and symposia to contribute to the sustainable improvement of healthcare systems across the continent.
