African women electrified the Mohammed V Theatre Esplanade with exciting musical performances on Thursday night as part of the three-day event at the 11th Visa for Music Festival.
The standout performance for day two of the festival was by artist Karyna Gomes from Guinea-Bissau. The journalist and singer channeled the voices of women from her country in her songs, blending Christian gospel, jazz, and bossa nova influences in her music.
Gomes was happy to be back in Africa to perform for a music-loving audience in Morocco.
“This is my second time at Visa for Music, a wonderful opportunity to share my art with a wider audience,” she told Morocco’s News Agency (MAP).
Singer Aicha Traoré from the Ivory Coast followed with her unique performance, blending reggae sounds with traditional Ivorian singing. Traoré highlights the festival’s focus on celebrating international cultures in a language everyone understands, music.
South African artist Nomfusi ended the evening on a high with a back-to-back performance of her greatest hits. Her Afro-soul music coupled with her eccentric stage presence earned her a passionate round of applause from the festival goers.
Visa for Music is taking place in various venues across Rabat from November 20 to 23.
