The 5th Africa Lion Forum opened in Marrakech on Thursday, uniting over 500 members from more than 30 African countries, Morocco’s News Agency (MAP) said.
Hosted by Lions Clubs International Foundation (LCIF), in collaboration with key partners such as the Moroccan Agency for International Cooperation (AMCI) and the Marrakech-Safi Regional Council, the forum is intended to foster collaboration, share best practices in community service, and address Africa’s humanitarian challenges.
Fabrício Oliveira, International President of LCIF highlighted the organization’s commitment to Africa and the involvement of younger generations in community initiatives.
Patti Hill, Chairperson of LCIF stated Africa’s central role in the organization’s global efforts and its longstanding presence on the continent since 1950.
The forum featured successful programs such as “SightFirst,” designed to address preventable blindness, and “Sight for Kids,” a vision screening initiative for children. Lions Clubs International has established 14 SightFirst Eye Hospitals across Africa, collaborating with local governments, private sectors, and communities.
Raja Bourhim, LCIF Governor of District 416-Morocco, stated the forum’s goal is to unite African members for impactful humanitarian actions, enhancing skills and knowledge to meet key objectives.
The event also highlighted ongoing training for members to improve their abilities and align with Lions Clubs International’s mission.
LCIF has distributed over $1.2 billion in grants since 1968, supporting its members as they deliver services to communities worldwide. It includes 1.4 million members in 49,000 clubs.
