Morocco’s Brahim Diaz is now the top scorer in the 2025 TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers (AFCON), having delivered a stunning hat-trick in a 7-0 rout of Lesotho on the final match day.
The 25-year-old Real Madrid forward took center stage on Monday in Oujda, netting all three goals in the first half to finish the qualifiers with seven goals.
His performance propelled the Atlas Lions to a perfect qualifying record, with six wins and a +24 goal difference in Group B.
Diaz overtook Guinea’s Serhou Guirassy in the scoring race. Guirassy had led with six goals heading into the final round after securing Guinea’s 1-0 victory over DR Congo on Matchday 5.
However, Guirassy[?] failed to add to his tally in Guinea’s last game against Tanzania, opening the door for Diaz to claim the top spot.
While Diaz and Guirassy dominated the headlines, a cluster of players shared third place on the scoring charts. Algeria’s Amine Gouiri, Zambia’s Kingsley Musonda, and Egypt’s Trezeguet all finished the qualifiers with four goals each.
