Abdellatif Hammouchi, the head of the National Police (DGSN) and Territorial Surveillance Agency (DGST), presided over DGSN’s annual awards ceremony on Monday to recognize the academic excellence of the students of Morocco’s national police, according to a DGSN press release.
The Mohammed VI Foundation for Social Works of National Security Personnel sponsored the awards ceremony, which coincided with Morocco’s 69th anniversary of its independence.
The DGSN awarded cash prizes and study grants to Moroccan students who had achieved top national scores in this year’s baccalaureate exams.
Around “a dozen students benefitted from the program,” the press release stated, and the award ceremony is an “acknowledgment of the individual accomplishments” of Moroccan students.
Because the DGSN awards are also intended to promote equitable access to quality education, several public-private partnership agreements were signed to facilitate access to education for “orphans of the national security family.”
The Mohammed VI Foundation for Social Works of National Security Personnel signed a partnership agreement with universities and academic institutions that would reduce tuition fees and grant free scholarships to deserving students.
The awards ceremony also celebrated the artistic achievement of police officers who participated in a visual arts competition. The Ministry of Culture appointed a panel of judges and art experts to pick three finalists. The panel also chose 30 paintings to be displayed at a public gallery exhibition to celebrate the artistic prowess of Moroccan security forces.
The Moroccan Police Sports Union also recognized the top three teams in the national indoor football championship, gathering teams comprised of police officers from Morocco’s various prefectures. The Settat prefecture team won first place, followed by the Dakhla regional security team in second and the Oujda police prefecture team in third.
