Morocco’s Minister of Equipment and Water Nizar Baraka has announced an increase in national dam filling rates to 29.30%, a significant improvement from 24.24% during the same period last year, according to a government report released on Tuesday.
The report reveals substantial variations in filling rates across the country’s water basins. The Guir-Ziz-Rheris basin leads with a rate of 57.16%, contributing to a total of 4.934 billion cubic meters of water. Followed by the Loukkos basin at 47.42%, the Moulouya basin at 40.80%, and the Sebou basin at 39.74%.
Mid-range levels were recorded in the Bouregreg basin in Rabat, with a filling rate of 35.17%, and the Draa-Oued Noun basin at 31.99%.
However, some regions continue to face challenges. The Souss-Massa basin reported a modest filling rate of 17.01%, while the Oum Er-Rbia basin recorded the lowest rate at just 4.99%.
